As the first full-line automobile manufacturer to offer advanced safety features standard equipment on all vehicles, Toyota’s Star Safety System represents the most advanced safety technology designed to protect you and your loved ones.
But what exactly makes up all the standard features of the Toyota Star Safety System?
- Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) – Helps the driver maintain control of the vehicle by preventing wheel slip and loss of traction while cornering. In wheel slip situations, engine power is reduced and braking force is applied to wheels with the most traction. VSC monitors steering angle and the direction the vehicle is traveling to help keep your Toyota safely on its intended path.
- Traction Control (TRAC) – Designed to maintain traction on wet, icy, loose or uneven surfaces, TRAC applies brake force to wheels that spin or slip, limits engine output and transfers power to the wheels with traction to help ensure you safely navigate the most inclement of road conditions.
- Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) – Instead of locking up the brakes, causing the vehicle to lose control, the ABS system “pulses” the brakes without locking them to maintain control in emergency braking situations. Pulsing releases brake pressure repeatedly for fractions of a second so the wheels never stop rotating, helping prevent a skid situation where all control is lost.
- Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) – Toyota’s ABS system also includes EBD for enhanced stability when braking. Heavy braking causes the body of a vehicle to tilt forward with momentum, but EBD responds to heavy braking by redistributing brake force to prevent brake lockup and keep the body more centered. This is especially helpful when carrying cargo. The EBD sensors detect the added load on the rear axle, and automatically increase rear brake force for enhanced braking effectiveness.
- Brake Assist (BA) – Designed to detect sudden events of panic braking, BA applies full braking pressure to the system even if the driver fails to hit the brake pedal hard enough. This additional braking assistance can mean the difference between avoiding an accident and being in one.
Since every new Toyota we sell features the Star Safety System as standard equipment, no matter which vehicle you choose, you can rest assured that your new Toyota is designed to perform with the utmost in vehicle safety.
