A supercharger is a means of forced induction, which uses pressurization to fit more air molecules inside an engine’s combustion chamber. But let’s put this in terms that everyone can understand; a supercharger delivers more power and faster acceleration.
Unlike a turbocharger that recirculates exhaust gases to spin a turbine and compress air that is fed into the combustion chamber, a supercharger compresses air from a turbine driven by a belt off the engine, similar to an alternator, A/C compressor or power steering pump.
Supercharging offers more instantaneous power at both low and high RPMs and doesn’t suffer from ‘lag’ often found with turbochargers.
